Phospholipids is amphipathic molecules. Our laboratory focuses on their excellent biocompatibility and emulsifying properties and develops some methods of enzymatic synthesis to obtain desired phospholipids.

Our laboratory performed the introduction of desired functional fatty acids and the transformation of polar group by lipase and phospholipase for large scale preparation of functional phospholipids which are trace amounts in nature. Further, we developed the reaction to give amphiphile to health functional molecules such as terpenes and phenols.

Such biological molecular modification reactions are expected to further enhance the functionality of marine lipids.
